Dental veneers consist of very thin pieces of porcelain that are shaped to fit exactly over the front surfaces of your teeth. They are bonded onto the tooth to create a long-lasting restoration.
We may suggest veneers if you have teeth that are discoloured internally, perhaps due to root canal treatment or from stains caused from prolonged use of antibiotics at a young age and which will not respond to tooth whitening treatments.
They are also very good for replacing areas of teeth that have become chipped or worn down, or for correcting the appearance of teeth that are slightly irregularly shaped.
Sometimes veneers can be used to correct the appearance of teeth that are slightly out of alignment, as a quicker alternative to adult orthodontics.
If you have any unsightly gaps in between your teeth, veneers can sometimes be used to minimise or close up these spaces.
You will normally need three appointments for this procedure.
The first will be to discuss how veneers may help your smile, the number required and the type of results that can reasonably be achieved.
The second appointment will be to prepare your teeth as it is generally necessary to remove a tiny amount of tooth material from the front surface of the teeth to be veneered. An impression of the prepared teeth is then taken and sent to our dental laboratory so your veneers can be custom-made to our exact design.
Your final appointment is to have the veneers fitted and bonded onto your teeth.
They should last for several years before they eventually need replacing.
